"A Weekly Communication from Teachers to Families for School Success"

November 1, 2011

Math – Ms. Burgess:  The Red, Yellow, Green, and Blue classes are starting the week with a mini-unit on Fraction, Decimal, and Percent Conversions. They will take a quiz tomorrow, and then move on to Divisibility in chapter 4. The Orange class is wrapping up chapter 3 and will take a test on Friday. Although grades close on Friday for term 1, this test will be the first major grade for term 2. The first Math Learning Log of term 2 is due next Wednesday, 11/9. Have a wonderful week! :)

Reading – Mrs. Jitiam: First term ends this Friday. Novel- Think-Tac-Toe class presentations are finished. Students will be able to take home projects and grades by Thursday. This week's log is an optional make-up log for any student who earned a low grade on one or missed one. The first log for term 2 will be handed out on Friday.

Geography – Mr. Wolf:  The Geography Fair is quickly approaching and is just around the corner on Tuesday, November 8th. This week we will have two workshops during school for students to finish the details on their project.  In addition, I will stay after school Tuesday and Thursday for additional workshops. Students should refer back to the rubric to check for completion of project requirements.

Parents are invited to attend the Gemini Geo Fair from 11:00 - 11:45. Please follow school procedures and check in at the main office to receive a visitor pass. Have a good week!

English – Mrs. Rezendes:  We finished So Far From the Bamboo Grove yesterday. We will spend two days in class this week working on the final essay for the book, a compare and contrast essay. The essay is due by Friday, but it can be turned in earlier. The directions and rubric can be found on my website: tinyurl.com/rezendeshome.

Science – Mrs. Yule: Students enjoyed their exploration of heat transfer last week in the lab.  The final grade for term 1 will be tomorrow’s Thermal Energy test.  Students received a study guide Monday, and took home their vocabulary packets to complete in preparation. Our next topic in physical science will be motion.
